Known for being a favourite of US players, 75 ball bingo is a form of the game that is played across the globe. Although it was most popular during the 1940s, the game has still maintained favour with players to this day, with its 5×5 grid consisting of 25 squares. The game gets its name because the squares are made up of numbers 1 through to 75. Players need to create a pre-chosen pattern to win.
This is one of the less popular forms of bingo, though it has secured itself as a niche among a select number of players. Gameplay differs from 75 ball or 90 ball as the ticket consists of a 4×4 grid with only 16 numbers presented; these numbers are displayed in four coloured columns. To win a game, you need to form a pattern, much like in 75 ball bingo, with multiple winning combinations being associated with a typical game.
Regarded as the most popular form of the game, 90 ball bingo is loved by countless gamers around the world, though UK players have a particular love for this format. Instead of single tickets, this game requires players to have a strip consisting of six bingo tickets, with the 90 numbers of the game spread across the six of these. The tickets are made up of 3×9 grids. Another unusual trait as there can be up to three winners per round.
Probably the most action filled variant of bingo, 5 line, also known as Swedish Bingo, is an easy way to get involved. Presented in a 5×5 grid, each column of numbers lines up with the word BINGO printed above, with numbers 1 through 75 used, like 75 ball bingo. To win this fast paced format, players have five ways to win: line wins (a single line all the way to a four line win) or a full house.
These terms are seen time and again in bingo circles, and yet few people actually understand what they mean. Quite simply they refer to players that had were close to winning a game; 1TG refers to a player who has one number left to get before winning, while 2TG refers to those who have two numbers left. Funnily enough, these types of gamers can still win after full house has been called, provided they’re gaming online.
To understand what this means, you need to know that admission refers to the least number of tickets you can have per game. Therefore, an admission packet is a grouping of these tickets, usually between three and six of them, which are purchased prior to play. Even though such packets are standard for many bingo halls, sometimes they hide special games within them only available to those who purchased a pack.
By far one of the simplest and most straightforward of terms, after games are merely games played after the main bingo round has ended. Think of it as a bonus activity of sorts.
If you hear the term “any way” called out during a game of bingo, this simply means that the pattern you need to create can be finished in any direction, e.g. it can be on its side, inverted so that it’s upside down, etc.
This refers to online bingo titles only, in which the software of that game automatically marks off the called numbers on your bingo card for you, similar to autoplay features from slot machines.
Arguably one of the simplest phrases within the history of the game, bingo is merely the word you have to shout out once you’ve marked off all the numbers and have formed a winning pattern.
As for the history of the game, it’s something that has been around for decades, with users normally having to call out “bingo” in order to win. Traditional rules state that if you fail to call out the word when you’ve won, you forfeit your win. Before players called out bingo, “beano” used to be common phrase because beans were used to mark off numbers.
When a player has a bingo nickname, it usually refers to the persona they’ve given themselves for when they’re playing, e.g. BingoLover95. It’s often seen as a good way for online users to protect their privacy.
Available in both online and offline games, this is an electronic way of displaying the numbers called out during the game thus far. It helps players to make sure they’ve not missed a call.
Typically, bingo bonuses are only offered to online users, due to the terms and conditions. The type of bonus available varies greatly, depending on the brand you’re playing with, the format of the game, and how many users are active. Sometimes a bingo bonus will give you a certain number of tickets for a set price, while others may offer free gaming between specific hours of the day. Upon the promo pages that detail this information, they will always highlight the difference between a bingo bonus and other game bonuses, to avoid confusion for users.
Bingo pads are when a set of tickets are grouped together, ready to be played within one session of a game. To ensure users don’t get confused, the sheets are colour coded for each game, so that it’s easy to go from one to the next. Bingo books are extremely common in bingo halls, but not so much with online games.
This is a pretty obvious bingo term, in that it refers to the person calling out the numbers. In more recent years, a lot of emphasis has been put on bingo calling as an “art”, with competitions even being held to find the best bingo caller.
Calls have two meanings within the bingo circuit: firstly, it refers to a person simply reading out the numbers chosen. Secondly, it also references the unique puns and rhymes now associated within the numbers of the game, for example “all the sevens, 77”. During a standard game of bingo, 52 numbers will be called out.
Bingo cards are the grids on which the game is played, however each grid will be laid out differently depending on the type of bingo you’re playing. 90 ball bingo has three rows of numbers with nine columns, while 75 ball bingo has five rows with five columns. For those gaming online, users are given a digital version of this.
Similar in nature to admission, this is when players purchase tickets in order to play a game, however buy-in is commonly used to refer to online titles, while admission is used for land based activities.
A unique name for the jackpot that a game is offering (usually when played in a bingo hall); each location will have its own way of doing this, but typically the first number called at the start of the game becomes a “lucky number”. From then onwards, every time that number is called, but without anyone winning, more money is added to the pot. Eventually when someone wins, they win all the cash collected so far.
This is another simple term, in which the bingo caller determines the pattern that’ll win the game; players are only usually told the pattern just as the game starts.
A bit similar to the cookie jar, this type of jackpot is won when a player calls out bingo when the cash ball is called out. If you win on a ball other than the cash one, sometimes the game offers a second place prize.
When a game offers this type of return, it is based on a percentage of the money generated by all those wishing to play the game. Regulations will help determine the minimum and maximum amounts needed to generate this percentage, as well as how much the house will take.
This side of bingo is usually an online phenomenon, with users playing both a main game of bingo followed by an in-chat mini game, both of which require your quick reflexes and attention. The chat host of the room moderates and explains the rules to all those involved.
Put simply, CH is the abbreviation of the title chat host. This is an online only term, with the chat host acting as caller, moderator, and an additional form of entertainment (to help keep games fun and lively).
Once again we have an online only term, which refers to the type of speech users reply upon when playing in-chat titles. Often for those outside of the online bingo circle, the abbreviations are hard to understand, however it doesn’t take novices long to pick up the terms and what they mean. Shorthand lingo makes playing and chatting much easier!
This is a pattern specific to 75 ball bingo; if you’re to be crowned the winner of the game, you need to mark off every number upon the card, no exceptions. In some circles, this is also called a “Blackout”.
Lastly, we come to the consolation prize, a return given to those who place second during a special jackpot based bingo title. This is normally when they call out bingo, but didn’t manage to do so within the set amount of calls the caller makes.
For a lot of players, bingo daubing is the most satisfying part of the game. Bingo Daubers are the specialized ink pens with flat, spongy tips, filled with translucent ink used for marking the numbers on the bingo card. Daubers first appeared around 1934 and have so far evolved into a bingo player’s personal statement. They can be differentiated by size, colour of the ink (which can also be fluorescent or mixed with glitter), and shape. Standard Bingo Daubers hold around 45 ml of ink while larger bottles store 80 to 120 ml and can last up to 8 bingo sessions.
Bingo deposit is the amount of money that the players transfer to their bingo sites cashiers. It is used for purchasing bingo tickets or claiming bingo promotions.
A number of bingo site operators welcome the new account holders with a bit of incentive, matching their first deposit with a set of complimentary bingo cards. The deposit bonuses can be claimed as soon as the transaction settles and the players will get hold of their free bingo tickets by opting-in for the offer or by using promo code at the sign-up. The free bingo tickets range in value and are usually limited to the specified bingo rooms. Deposit Bonuses are not only attached to the welcome package and new bonuses can be claimed every time the players deposit the qualifying amount.
The objective of bingo is to form a full vertical, horizontal or diagonal line. Other patterns can generate a payout as well, but completing the row, column, or a diagonal is the basis of bingo.
Completing two winning patterns is generally known as “Double Bingo” There are more than 130 ways to form Double Bingo and they include any combo of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal patterns.
While playing bingo, certain behavioural patterns must be adopted for the sake of other players. The rules of Bingo Etiquette can be summed up into a single sentence – do not do anything that you yourself would find irritating. This includes chatting with other players or repeating the numbers, two of the most annoying things that you can do inside the bingo room. Tipping the caller is always considered a matter of good taste, but most of all, bingo players are required to show their respect to the caller by remaining composed even if they are losing. Similar rules are applied in online bingo sessions, where the players can interact with the bingo room host via live chat.
This term refers to bingo rounds that are scheduled before the regular bingo sessions. Early bird is the same as a “warm-up” bingo.
A lot of bingo facilities offer the Electronic Dauber, a monitor that allows you to upload multiple bingo cards and automatize game. The device (also called the “Electronic Card Minder”) performs several functions at the same time – such as number tracking and ticket sorting – without robbing you of the joy of yelling BINGO!
The”Face” is the area with numbers, as presented on a bingo card; for example, if you by a sheet of 9 bingo cards, it will have 9 faces.
A winning pattern that covers all four corners – to win, the player will have to be the first to daub B1, B5, O1, and O5 numbers.
The best possible outcome in the bingo game, Full House means that you have managed to cover all the numbers on the card, striking the ultimate BINGO!
Flimsies, also known as throwaways, are bingo cards printed on thinner paper sheets and used for special bingo sessions. The number of cards per sheet can range from 1 to 9. Bingo rounds played on flimsies feature a more generous prize pool that the ones played with thicker bingo tickets.
Unlike funded bingo, free or no-deposit bingo can be played even by those who have not submitted any deposits. Online bingo players will be able to claim the complimentary cards immediately after the registration process is completed. The prizes are, of course, more modest than the ones offered in funded bingo variants.
The central spot on the bingo card is called a “free space” or a “free square” and has no number. This field is the wild card, as it is considered automatically covered. This is not the universal rule and some bingo variants do not have the free space.
Depositing members are often called “funded players”; positive balance will grant them access to the funded bingo rooms and enable them to claim the deposit bonuses.
Bingo players will often come across bingo software and bingo equipment designed and produced by GameTech International Inc, one of the leading electronic bingo system manufacturers.
Game Board is the card layout across which the bingo game is actually conducted. The board can be electronic, in which case the winning patterns will be automatically displayed across the card. The players can choose to daub the numbers on the online bingo card themselves or automatize the process using the game board commands.
Bingo pattern is any combination that can produce a payout, starting with the above-described horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line. Depending on a bingo variant, players can land hundreds of possible patterns: Four Corners, Big X, W Bingo Pattern, Outside Edge, Large Diamond, Alphabet patters (forming the shape of a letter), etc.
A bingo game room is an online version of the land-based bingo hall, and can be classified as free, funded, or exclusive (invite-only). This means that certain rooms will be available to depositing members only while others are reserved for VIP members. Another distinction is the bingo variant that’s featured inside the room, as not all rooms will offer the same variation of the game or even offer the same jackpot. Before selecting the optimal room, the players will be able to consider the ticket price, a number of active participants, the prize pool, the time left until the next session is launched, etc. More often than not, live hosts will be a part of the service.
Bingo hall is a land-based facility that can be a part of the larger gambling venue or function as a bingo specialized venue. A single bingo hall can offer several bingo variants, including progressive and electronic bingo, played with the so-called electronic card minders that can fully automatize the game.
Forming a straight line without taking advantage of the free space in the middle of the card is called a “hardway bingo”. Apart from the single, double and triple hardway lines, the hardway patterns can also be formed in clusters or blocks: Hardway 6-pack, Hardway blocks of 4, and Hardway blocks of 8.
Opposite of the Flimsies, described earlier in the text. These types of cards are printed across tick and durable cardboard material, with transparent shutters which enable the players to mark the numbers. Nowadays, flimsies have eliminated the need for hard cards, and they are rarely used in the bingo halls.
Similar to hard bingo cards, inlaid cards are used for automatic bingo games. They are made of plastic and integrated into the bingo hall table tops.
Instant Bingo is a bingo card with a removable coat covering the numbers. The player needs to scratch off the thin layer of colour to reveal the pattern.
Instant Win games include scratch cards or any other game that can produce immediate payouts. Most of the games available on bingo sites can be categorized at “instant”.
Bingo cash prize awarded when a player manages to land a valid pattern. The bingo jackpot can be progressive or guaranteed. Jackpots are not to be confused with base game payouts.
Late Night or Moonlight Bingo is a night-time bingo session which usually takes place around 10 pm or later. It is equally popular online and inside the land-based bingo halls.
Extremely dynamic land-based bingo sessions played late in the evening, under fluorescent lights. The Lights Out games often include music, dancing, full-service bars, giveaways, etc.
Comp or loyalty points are progress-based rewards which the players accumulate on every qualifying bet, login, deposit, win, or simply by completing a task that the operator requires. The points can be exchanged for bonus cash, extra bingo tickets, or used for upgrading the player’s membership level and reaching VIP status.
Max bet is the upper limit that the player can wager on a certain game. In the world of bingo, it is the maximum ticket price per session.
In some cases, the playing field is levelled out by setting a limit to the number of cards that can be purchased by a single player.
As opposed to Max Tickets, the minimum buy-in is the qualifying number of tickets that the players need to buy before joining the bingo session.
A randomly selected number that can double the payout if it completes the winning pattern. In some cases, the amount that the Money Ball carries is pre-determined.
If two or more players hit bingo on the same call, the cash prize will have to be split and divided into equal portions among the winners.
Bingo rounds that take place across the main stage or the central stage bingo area. The buy-ins are required shortly before the bingo session starts.
Automatic 80-Ball bingo variant played with the reusable 4×4 bingo cards (called “Inlaid cards”). The cards are attached to the table and the session is activated by inserting a coin.
Mushroom is a cluster of 6 to 8 electronic bingo terminals, grouped together and positioned in a way that forms a shape of a mushroom.
The National Bingo is played in the UK, across 100 or more bingo halls that are linked together into a single network. The sessions are scheduled twice a day and the prize pools can be massive. National Bingo does not acknowledge any single or double-line wins and the player who scores bingo with the fewest calls wins.
A winning pattern that covers 9 spots on the bingo card – the free spot may or may not be included in the block of the winning numbers.
A no-deposit bonus is any promotional offer that does not require players to submit a deposit. It is usually awarded on sign-up, as soon as the registration process is completed. Unlike deposit bonuses, no-deposit offers are more modest, and the bingo ticket value (or the bonus cash loaded on the player’s account) is comparatively lower. The same goes for the wagering requirements – if the player opted-in for a deposit-free bonus, the rollover amount that needs to be met before making a withdrawal is much higher than usual. More often than not, the players will have a limited selection of bingo rooms that validate the bonus tickets or bonus cash.
The players will be “on” when only one number stands between them and bingo. “On” is the same as 1TG (one to go), which also results in a payout.
This expression is used in the “coverall” games. A player who lands the specified pattern wins, but the session goes on until the coverall is hit.
On’s is different to “On” and it refers to the number of bingo faces. For example, a bingo sheet with 9 faces is a “9 on” or “9 to view”.
Just like in any game of chance, the odds are actually the representation of how probable a positive outcome is. The players will have higher odds of forming a simple pattern that landing a full house; at the same time, purchasing multiple cards will significantly increase your winning chances and give you an edge over a player with a single bingo ticket.
Bingo variants with the cash pool prize determined by the percentage rate that’s actually deducted from the ticket price. Mechanised bingo is a typical representative of Parti.
A pattern is a shape that has to be formed across the bingo cards for the player to win. Horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines are the most common patterns, but hundreds more can be formed, including letters of the alphabet, numbers, arrows, a diamond, a frame, lucky 7, a pyramid, top & bottom, etc.
The payout can refer to a withdrawal that the players make from their bingo site cashiers or to the payout that’s awarded for landing a specific bingo pattern in an individual game. The rate of the payout depends on the game, prize pool, and the complexity of the pattern.
Anyone who meets the admission requirement is considered an active bingo player. An interesting fact is that the number of bingo players has been on a constant rise ever since online casinos started including bingo games on their platforms. What was used to associated with senior citizens is now equally popular among players between 18 and 35.
Bingo promo codes are combinations of letters or numbers that are used to activate the relevant bingo promotion. The codes can be random or derived from the bingo site name. They will not be valid unless other requirements are met (such as placing a deposit) and can only be used once per player.
Bingo promotions can be ongoing, short-term, attached to a deposit, or free. To claim a promotion (which usually involves complimentary bingo tickets), the players will need to opt-in or use a promo code. If not stated otherwise, the players will usually need to place a qualifying deposit before being able to redeem the offer. The ongoing promotions are run daily or weekly; the players can compete for cash prizes, free bingo tickets (that can often be used inside exclusive bingo room with higher jackpots), bonus cash, or bundle offers that also include free spins (as most bingo sites also provide slot games lobbies).
Known also as “Any Corner Stamp”, Postage Stamp is a 75-Ball bingo winning pattern that consists of 2×2 block of numbers formed in any of the four corners.
Bingo variant that’s commonly played on bingo machines which will award the players with different types of rewards rather than cash – tokens, points, or vouchers.
A bingo promotion during which all players who purchase a bingo ticket or submit a qualifying deposit can claim a raffle ticket and enter a random prize draw.
A progressive jackpot is a cash pool that continues to grow until a player wins it by meeting the pre-determined conditions, such as hitting a specific bingo pattern or landing a full house. Every next session without a progressive jackpot winner will increase the pot. Once claimed, the pot will reset to its base value.
Bingo games played with folded and sealed paper tickets, some of which contain a winning pattern or a winning combination – just like the scratch cards.
Similar to picking games, punchboards are played across a grid with hidden prizes and the players must punch a certain field on the board to reveal the prize.
Speed, Quickie, or Blowout bingo is a coverall game variation played with 3×3 cards and 30 balls. The sessions are fast, dynamic, and usually, precede the main bingo event.
Colourful bingo cards that are offered in some bingo halls; unlike colourful bingo daubers which are more of a statement piece, a colour of the bingo card actually makes a difference as it will determine the prize value. This means that certain colours can generate more generous prizes than others.
Reloads or redeposit bonuses are an extension of the welcome bonus. The principle is the same – after depositing the qualifying amount, the player can claim a certain amount of bonus cash (usually 100% deposit match), which can be used for purchasing more bingo tickets. In some cases, the operator will match the deposit with a stack of bingo tickets instead of bonus cash, which the players can redeem as soon as the transaction clears. The main difference between the welcome offer and reloads is that they can be claimed over and over again, as opposed to the one-time welcome package.
RNG is short for “random number generator”, computer software that guarantees that all of the “drawn” and called numbers in online bingo are completely random. Bingo site operators often hire independent labs to test the software for fairness and confirm that the RNG processes are running like they are supposed to.
Roomies are the online bingo rooms dwellers who interact with each other while playing. These types of sessions are extremely popular as they introduce a social factor to the game.
Bingo rooms are online versions of land-based bingo halls. A bingo site often has multiple rooms, each with a different variant of the bingo game, jackpot size, capacity, schedule, and, of course, cash prize. The most common bingo rooms that you will find on any bingo platform are 90-Ball, 75-Ball, and 5-line bingo. In addition to the regular, funded rooms, the registered bingo site members will also have Free Bingo rooms at their disposal (with modest cash prizes), while the most loyal members will be granted access to the exclusive rooms, available to VIP players. The interaction between the players and the bingo room hosts via the live chat system is usually a part of the bingo room experience.
The serial number is a sequence of digits printed on the bingo cards by the manufacturer and used as an identifier, thus preserving the integrity of the game.
A stack of bingo cards with a certain number of unique faces; series are also printed in sets of 6,000 or 9,000, which means that a single series contains 6,000 or 9,000 faces.
A sequence of consecutive bingo rounds with an intermission in between. The main session can be preceded by blowout bingo games. An evening inside a bingo hall/room is divided into multiple sessions – Early Bird, Main Stage, Moonlight, Lights Out, etc. A single session has around 12 – 20 games and lasts for about an hour.
Plastic bingo cards used for mechanised bingo sessions; the name refers to the thin shutters attached to the cards, serving as bingo daubers.
Any full and valid bingo line/pattern formed in the 75-Ball bingo variant that generates a payment. It can be either horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
A block bingo pattern formed across 6 numbers on a single bingo card. This pattern is also known as a block of six and the free space can complete the combination.
Specials are the bingo variants played outside the regularly scheduled, so-called main stage bingo events. Bingo tickets for the special bingo sessions are sold separately from the main stage admission packs, although some bingo halls treat certain specials as bonus events and include the tickets into the main admission stack.
A more dynamic version of a standard bingo game played with cards that have fewer numbers. Same as the Speed Game or Quickie described above.
Automatic daubing system, also known as the G.T.I (short for GameTech International, a renowned bingo equipment and software manufacturer that developed the T.E.D electronic dauber).
A mechanical bingo variant that’s played on the permanent cards with shutters, used mostly for fundraisers or similar types of events. See also “shutter boards”.
Texas Blackout is a form of a coverall bingo where the first called number determines the “wild card” numbers. If the number is even, all even numbers will be wilds. The same goes for the odds and if the first drawn number is odd, then the rest of the odds on the bingo card will be considered as wilds.
Triple bingo is a term that refers to three winning patterns formed across a single bingo card at the same time. For example, a vertical line, a stamp and 4 corners.
Bingo tickets (or bingo sheets) are the disposable paper leaflets with bingo cards printed across the surface. More than one bingo card can be printed on a single ticket (and it usually is). In online bingo, bingo card and bingo ticket are interchangeable terms and refer to the same thing.
Up is the number of bingo tickets comprising the bingo book. A bingo book that has 10 pages is commonly referred to as “10 Up”.
An extra admission fee provided in advance, which enables the player to compete for additional jackpots or special prizes (in addition to the base game prize). Without the validation, a winning pattern required for winning a jackpot will not be acknowledged and the player will not be entitled to claim the prize.
Wagering or playthrough requirements refer to the amount of money that has to be wagered before the player can withdraw the winnings generated from the bonus cash. If the promotion or a welcome offer has x10 wagering requirements, then the players will need to wager ten times their deposits and bonus cash before any of the winnings can be claimed. Let us assume (for a sake of illustration), that the operator offers $50 worth bingo tickets on every $10 deposit:
10 x ($10 + $50) = $600
If the wagering requirements are set at x10, then the player will need to wager $600 before requesting a withdrawal.
Warm up games are also called “Early Birds” and they precede the main stage bingo session. They are the complete opposites from the Moonlight bingo, scheduled late in the evening.
The wild number is the predetermined number that can complete any winning pattern and can be immediately marked off on the bingo cards by all the players. Not all bingo halls have the same rules for selecting the wild, but it is usually determined during the first call. With two-digit numbers, the last digit is the wild.
The type of coverall bingo game where the winner takes all 100% of the proceeds; in other words, there is no house edge or the commission for the operator.
The best part of bingo or any other gambling experience is cashing out. Once you meet the wagering requirements (where applicable), you will need to submit the withdrawal request, which is usually processed in around 1-2 days. The bingo site operator will then release your winnings via the selected payment method.
